update/restore iphone

can you download the update / restore file on its own without the iphone being attached? its such a large file and takes so long that the iphone continually shuts off regardless way before the update /restore file cann complete

Welcome to Apple Support Community!

Your device will stay in recovery mode for 15 minutes.

Your Mac or PC should continue to download the software for your iPhone

If you device restarts out of recovery mode....you will just have to put the device back into recovery mode.
