Connecting to external networks

I have recently purchased a iPhone 13 mini and whilst the internet works perfectly fine at home and mobile data works out and about I’m unable to successfully connect to external networks in public places and I can’t work out how to change the settings so my phone will trust external networks. Any suggestions on how to resolve please?
