WatchOS 8.3 Update Causing 3rd Party Wireless Charger to Drain Battery

Is anyone else experiencing erratic behavior on their Series 7 Watch after the 8.3 update with a 3rd party wireless charger (Belkin)? Right after the update my watch started flashing between screens (charging screen, unlock pin pad, watch face) and eventually drained the battery to 10%. Once I put it on the charger that came with the watch it charged fine, problems went away. I don't want my charger to become obsolete because of an update.

Exactly the same situation comes with my Prestigio Revolt A8 combo charging device. While iPhone would get an excellent load with it, Apple Watch stops the charging after app. 5 minutes. The vendor already noticed this issue, calling update to watchOS 8.3 as its main reason: https://prestigio.com/news/revolt-apple-watch-os-8-3

Blue bolt just sent me this info since I contacted them. ::

Please be advised that Apple Watch Series 7 is not compatible with our BoltHOME Charger. Thus your watch will not charge properly with our product.

Unfortunately, we do not allow returns due to incompatibility issues.

COME ON APPLE 🍎 ADD BLUE BOLT CHARGERS SO WE CAN USE OUR CHARGES FOR THE APPLE WATCH 7

As I've posted several times in this thread the reason Blue Bolt told you this is they are not a part of the mFi certification program, they do not use chipsets in their devices that are mFi certified and they have no direct access to the codes within the chipsets so they steal them from companies that are mFi certified. The problem is if Apple during an update has to change the codes they have no means to update theirs short of stealing some new ones for newly made device and they could then swap out with you if they wish. But they have no incentive to do so.

Apple cannot "ADD BLUE BOLT", they need to apply to the mFi program (as over 200 companies have done) and comply with the terms, one of which would be to use programmable mFi approved chipsets. But this would increase their costs. Until they do that there is nothing that Apple can do.

The point is if your charger is Made for Apple certified your charger should continue to work even if Apple updated the codes and the charger during the move to watchOS 8.3. If you do have a charger that is certified you should contact the manufacturer and Apple support and report it. If you have one that is not certified, and I can find that the BroHonor is, you won't be able to use it anymore because it was using stolen security codes and can no longer be used. You will have to wait for the company to come out with a new model with newer stolen security codes that work and buy that model.

So if you think you have a charger that IS Made for Apple certified contact the company to be sure and report the problem and I would also recommend contacting Apple support and reporting it. If you know it does not have such certification you will have to buy a new one.

My wife and I both have series 4 watches. The WatchOS 8.3 update nerfed our ability to charge with 3rd party chargers. I went to the Apple store today. I tested with Apple chargers in the store and then purchased new Apple chargers which solved the issue. Not thrilled as a customer, but better than buying new watches or switching to Android.

Sorry but you are incorrect about all 3-in-1 stands not working. My Mophie is working just fine. The Belkin I gave a friend for Christmas is working. In fact with watchOS 8.4 all of the MFi certified ones should be working. Non-certified ones are using knockoff chipsets that cannot be updated and stolen codes. This causes problems if Apple does an update. So contact the manufacturer and see what they will do for you.

Software is involved in regulating charging, the chipset is not used for data transfer on the Watch puck and cable. If I have a company that participates in the Made for iDevice program I would want Apple to periodically update and render devices with stolen codes inoperable. Buy a cable that is certified and you won’t have this issue. Buy a cheap knockoff with stolen codes and you will.

All I’m guessing is that may be yours is not original apple or if it is thn outdated because security codes are changed now … may be you need to buy a new one from office a new puck and charger would work out all but from Apple itself … your best bet for now is to ask ur friend if he/she has original watch charger if not thn visit apple store and try to charge there … and check if its just charger or puck … take urs along too

This is definitely not just a Belkin issue. I am having the exact same issues with both of my new BlueBolt chargers.

Erratic watch behaviour (changing between screens). Starts charging then stops within 10 seconds. Ranges between 2% and 6% charged. Apple charger works fine.

My watch is running 8.3 but my chargers are new, so I don’t know if they worked with lower version of Apple software.

Very frustrating.

My blue bolt charger - same problem. It’s not the charger though. I’m son had Apple Watch SE - no problem on blue bolt charger. As soon as I put the Apple Watch 7 on charger it begins to charge, then stops after less than a minute. I thought it was the watch 7 at first. Was almost going to return it. But the 7 Watch charges fine with the supplied charger from Apple. Come on Apple - fix this issue !!!!
