WatchOS 8.3 Update Causing 3rd Party Wireless Charger to Drain Battery

Is anyone else experiencing erratic behavior on their Series 7 Watch after the 8.3 update with a 3rd party wireless charger (Belkin)? Right after the update my watch started flashing between screens (charging screen, unlock pin pad, watch face) and eventually drained the battery to 10%. Once I put it on the charger that came with the watch it charged fine, problems went away. I don't want my charger to become obsolete because of an update.

I thought I was going crazy until I found this thread. I am seeing this on my Bluebolt combo charger (Phone, Watch, AirPods), so it is not just Belkin gear. Something changed in 8.3, because this was working fine previously.

i will not argue about the data, but for instance, outside the USA, believe me you will find a ratio of 1 to 8 or more. beside Belkin and one or two others, here in the GCC (dubai, Oman, etc.) bearly you will find something. anyway, it is up to apple to change whatever they judge suitable for them, but have a look in reddit (foe example) and you will see how big and explosive this situation

While you are on Reddit do a search about Apple and Lightning cables and you will find as many posts regarding it. This isn’t a first. Apple also recently did an update on the MagSafe charger I think the only reason we aren’t seeing complaints about that is it is too soon for anyone to have counterfeited the chipset and stolen the codes. But I’m sure it will happen.

All I’m guessing is that may be yours is not original apple or if it is thn outdated because security codes are changed now … may be you need to buy a new one from office a new puck and charger would work out all but from Apple itself … your best bet for now is to ask ur friend if he/she has original watch charger if not thn visit apple store and try to charge there … and check if its just charger or puck … take urs along too

My series 5’s charger doesn’t work also, but you’re saying there was a code change in the last update that made all non-series 7 chargers obsolete? Because of the dismal accessory selection that Apple has, this may be a deal-breaker for me. I’ve been an Apple guy since ‘05. If I convert, my whole family converts. What a pain that’s going to be.

No, it didn’t affect all chargers, my Mophie charger works fines. My friends Belkin is also working although the person who started this thread. If you have a certified Made for Apple charger contact the company that made it and Apple Support. If you are using a cheap knockoff that is using counterfeit chips and stolen codes you can contact the manufacturer. Apple won’t help you.

Yes, I know where I should go if I want to deal with Apple Support. I asked because you answered all customers with same statement. In here, we are trying to handle it because we cannot use our watches just before xmas holiday it means even if I order an official charger, I still need to wait till new year to use my watch. On the other hand, if Apple couldn’t protect its codes, it is not my fault. I didn’t know it was stolen, and currently I cannot contact with its manufacturer. I mean please if you dont have any other idea, please stop spamming same content, people in here already read your comment. There are lots of user who facing same problems and following this topic for a solution. We all know we can buy a charger from apple store.

Unfortunately there is no apple store close to me and I will not buy any charger or any Apple product if they keep their bullshit strategy because it is exactly Apple’s fault. If they couldn’t protect codes, they should’ve change it immediately not after thousands of them produced and sold. There are lots of users like me who cannot use their watches because Apple couldn’t protect it. What’s next? Will they protect our privacy or thieves will also steal our private data?

Your argument is specious. Most likely the codes that were used were stolen through social engineering from one of the 200 or so certified companies. What model puck charger do you have, where did you buy it and how much did you pay. I did not ask if there is an Apple Store I asked about an electronics store. And where is the cable that came with your watch?

And what make and how much was it? And have you talked to Amazon support. Apple will only recognize it if they are in the MFI program. As I said this is not a first for things like this and there were many thousands of Lightning cables that failed to work after an older update. Without knowing the company It is hard to guess if it is part of the program. Lots of $5 Lightning cables went to junk drawers or recycle. Caveat Emptor.
