WatchOS 8.3 Update Causing 3rd Party Wireless Charger to Drain Battery

Is anyone else experiencing erratic behavior on their Series 7 Watch after the 8.3 update with a 3rd party wireless charger (Belkin)? Right after the update my watch started flashing between screens (charging screen, unlock pin pad, watch face) and eventually drained the battery to 10%. Once I put it on the charger that came with the watch it charged fine, problems went away. I don't want my charger to become obsolete because of an update.

I'm having a similar issue with my BlueBolt all-in-one charger. (Charges iphone, watch and earpods). The watch isn't charging, but charges fine on Apple branded puck chargers. Was working fine for me until WatchOS 8.3

Thinking the same 😊 we are all here to discuss this “new change” and how bad it affect thousands of users, where he came again and again with stolen codes, thieves etc…

if apple was making an “APPLE” stand/charger, ok, but if there is only third party, and we have to guess or trust if they are really certified, well, something is wrong

Dec 21, 2021 9:35 PM in response to Fakeiphonedo

Oh, please, is there no such thing as personal responsibility anymore? How hard is it to look at a box or the paperwork and see if it has the mFi logo? How much did you pay for this knockoff anyway and who made it?

So you honestly think Apple should issue an update that makes sure all counterfeit devices with stolen codes should work? And what happened to the cable that came with your Apple Watch? Did you lose it?

i think you are taking the things either personally or as they said above, you may work for Apple. there is nothing related to personal responsability. you MUST know that out of Apple customers, a huuuuuuge amount are not even aware what is an MFI or what the **** are stolen code! they only knows that it is a STUPID cable to bring power, nothing more nothing less. and yes, Apple should have the personal responsability with all of its client, a statement : we have the duty to protect you, so all the "contrefit" (when it was never the case) will stop working, and to give us the right to accept it or not.

now it is christmas time, a lot and a lot and a lot of gists are bought, and already in their way, which include a lot and a lot and a lot of wireless stand/charger. the timing chosen by apple was more than right to screw everybody. instead of a responsible company, with the environement, they left thousand and thousand of devices obsolete (cannot charge any other device).

so the next step, the wall charger??????????? or we must have the personal responsability for that also???

I'm not taking it personally. No, I don't think a huge amount of customers don't know this and know anything about mFi. And bringing power properly to portable electronics is much more than being a stupid cable. What I do think a lot of people do believe it there is such thing as a free lunch. They look only for Lightning cable, and Apple Watch puck cable and see some from Belkin, Mophie, Apple, Griffin, and others and see they run from $20 to $125 and then go on Amazon and find one for $4 and say I'll get that one. They don't do any research, they don't look at the box, they don't look at what is included in the box. Then when something goes wrong they blame anyone else besides themselves. And yes you should take personal responsibility for any power adapter that you buy. For 20W USB-C power adapters I like the Anker Nano, the Mophie, the Satechi and the Apple one in that order. I did research them. We have the internet, it isn't that hard to do.

Again, here are your options:

You can contact the company that makes your stand, tell them what has happened and see if they have any suggestions.

If your look on the box and find that it is one that has mFi certification then contact them and tell them what happened. If that is the case you should also contact Apple Support so that they can be made aware of the situation.

Why do I ask for the maker and the price? One, to check to see if they are certified mFi and two to see if what you bought was a complete ripoff. People who complained about Lightning cables no longer working sometimes paid $2 for 5 cables and then asked how were they to know they weren't mFi. Well, the extremely low price would be a tipoff.

You can keep complaining but like I told the other poster you have limited options. I believe you said you bought yours from Amazon, that gives you an additional option. You keep saying your holiday is ruined and you can't use your watch but again what happened to the cable that came with your Apple Watch? That and a power adapter will let you charge your watch all through the holidays. So what happened to it?

What is the use of having a chip in a cable if it was not to have royality? The charger and the device must regulate the voltage, cut the charge, etc.

if apple was really caring and responsible, they should have switched to USB-C, but nooooo, they will lose a niche of thousands of dollar.

and the charger we are talking about doesn’t cost 4$! Get out of your shell and see what else in the nature.

anyway, we are taking this conversation out of the main topic, which is not right. The topic talks about what is happening with the 8.3 and to explain to people that there is nothing wrong with the watch / stand, it is a software limitation by apple and we all hope that they will fix it back.

which you all the best with you MFI and apple forever thing

The cable that comes with the Apple Watch 7 does have a USB-C puck/cable so that answers that question.

The device in this case talks to the puck/cable.

So how much did your device cost? You never said.

If you want Apple to switch it back you need to click on the Get Support link at the top right of this page and tell Apple. If your device is using counterfeit chips/stolen codes they will likely tell you that will not happen.. Keep in mind that the companies that do sell mFi products no doubt applaud Apple doing this and would not be pleased with Apple if they "fix" it back.

If you truly displeased with this then vote with your wallet and go a different route.

Man, I’ve lost but charger. Why do you have a nerve about your questions? Sometimes people wouldn’t like to share what happened stuffs or their prices or if they can access a physical store or not. They are not topic of the discussion. What if I try to contact with Amazon or seller? I know I will not receive any reply in a month and it is not their fault, we are on just before xmas. However, apple can fix it with just an update. They did it just before xmas without warning or informing the users who already purchased the most popular product on the most popular online retailer. Do you check or read every fckin detail on the products from walmart? It’s just a charger which doesn’t allow dat transfer. If apple couldn’t protect its codes then they should’ve change the software immediately not after became bestseller on amazon for months. Stop mfi issue because its the half of the discussion already. Please let me know how can I ignore you because I’m following that topic it means I receive every message as an email.

1- switching to USB C, means switching completely to it! in this way, you can reuse all the plenty cables taht are already in the nature. if they were actually really concerned aboutthe environnement. keeping the lightening connector, is not the right move.

2- my chager stand cost me 90$ not 4$ with 2 year warranty etc. and not from Amazon. and yes, already contacted them.

3- have you checkd personally if the charger is contrefit? with stolen code?

4- of course i will vote with my wallet and chose the right route. HOWEVER, i have also the right to be informed when there is such huge change that will impact definetly my devices. what is the warranty that tomorrow it will not happens with other devices: wall charger, headset, etc???

5- again, the topic here was not the MFI and how cool and lovely is apple, it was to explain that is not a particual situation, but a complete change in the OS with nefaste implication.

Nah, i will say it is morethan a funboy, it may work for apple. if not, no reason why he is so offensed by our mean and bad behaviour.

going back to the real discussion, some of users that installed the 8.4 beta had their charger working again, but not all. i believe 100% they will fix it. a stupid action like this and especially in christmas time will cost them more than a simple unhappy client. the success of a product is how easy you can deal with it. if ti become more and more closed, definetly it will harm

Dec 23, 2021 7:09 AM in response to KGrastorf

Same on my side with AW7 and 3rd-Party chargers (multiple ones). All worked fine prior to the update now it looks i shall be happy it at least is still working reliably with the original Apple charger connected to my MacBook.

Sometimes it helps, to remove the AW for a few seconds and then put it on the charger again - but no guarantee on that.
