Unwanted upside down exclamation point and lost question mark

on my iMac keyboard I no longer can enter regular English punctuation marks, the exclamation point is upside down ¡, question marks look like this Ç, semicolons look like this ñ, the at sign in an email address looks like this !. Help, how do I fix this. My keyboard preference is set to English.
