Option to automatically compress music when syncing to iPhone has been removed in Monterey/iOS15

Call me old but I have a huge library of uncompressed music files.

One day I found I could no longer sync my iPhone as it suddenly decided I needed 50GB more than before. This was on my old laptop running Catalina.

Reading around, the suggested fix was to update everything, I have to keep my old laptop on Catalina to keep it compatible with some audio gear, but luckily I had ordered a new MBP.

I just tried to sync again and same issue.

Then I notice the option to automatically compress audio when syncing is gone. Why?

It looks like all of a sudden, something that had worked perfectly for me for years, allowing me to keep a central DB of uncompressed music, and a compressed version on my phone, was just removed.

I can't imagine the code to do it was all that complicated either

Just means sync is broken
