I did research on the Hi-Res Lossless audio no matter how Hi-Res your file is, ur iPhone is only going to output 44.1/16! That's as good as the DAC is in the iPhones!
My question to this issue would probably be, when does Apple plan on developing a Hi-Res DAC for the iPhones and iPads??? Because if you downloaded a 96/24 file or a 192/24 file and you're planning on playing off your phone that you have connected to your home receiver or whatever audio setup that you may have.... and as long as you are using the iPhone as the transport for your audio files to the receiver, no matter what the file is rated at, once your iPhone is the main contributor of the audio.... the best quality that you will ever get using the iPhone is 44.1/16 or 48/16 which is really more for movies than music! 44.1/16 is the Red Book CD standards that we've been following since the making of the first CDs! Because first of all, if you bought a CD that was 96/24 or 192/24... it would NOT play in your car's CD player or any other consumer CD player that you might be using.
