Want to update my ios
there is no update on my app store or system preferences but i know i am using an old IOS on my macbook

Back up your data, check your applications for compatibility, and if your MacBook Pro model is recent enough, click on Mojave, Catalina, Big Sur, or Monterey. They're full-version upgrades and won't appear in the Updates list.
