How do I stop receiving incoming email already flagged by the sender. Flagging an email is a function the user of apple mail applies to an email not the sender. I keep getting pre-flagged emails that show in my flagged email box that I did not flag. This show up there even if the are junk or in the trash.

Rules are set in Mail - Preferences - Rules, and can flag messages automatically. (They operate separately from the filters applied in the Junk Mail tab in Preferences.)

This seems to be a unresolved problem with Microsoft Hotmail. I found many discussions addressing this issue. The only work around suggested is to block the sender which can be accomplished online.
Can't say I've ever experienced that.
Are you relatively sure that you don't have some leftover rules set that might be flagging email? If you have multiple Macs accessing the same IMAP server account(s), the rules could be on any of them.
I did find one old rule but it was specific to and email address (deleted). I reset junk filters, "Mark as junk mail, but leave it in my inbox" was checked. I do have more than one MacBook Pro, but it was off for many months and was still having this problem. Thanks for checking in, I'll give it a few days with a follow up with the reset of filters to defaults..
Even after making the changes to Junk mail filters I'm still receiving emails that are already flagged red.
I don' use red flags so they stand out when they arrive. Notice in the picture the last email I flagged was 9/24/21, and in one day I received seven.
Any ideas?
I have no rules on, before this discussion started I did have one rule that targeted a specific website but is deleted.
I'm still watching from which email provider these are coming from since I have four email accounts. There is an ongoing discussion on outlook forums (hotmail.com) addressing this is as well.. But these pre-flagged emails seem to be from other providers too (will verify).
