iPhone Trade In

Hello I am interested in trading in my iPhone 12 Pro Max to get the iPhone 13 Pro Max but I’m still paying for my current phone with the Apple credit card. Does the remaining amount owed goes to my new plan or it gets paid off with the trade in?
