Hide my Email doesn't work

I am trying to use "Hide my Mail" from Mail app of Apple. Whenever I choose the option it gives error as "Something went wrong". I have tried following things for the problem to solve but it didn't solve the problem:

  1. Signed out of Apple account and signed in again - didn't work.
  2. I removed the email from the mail app associated with hide my email, and again added it - didn't work.

I have already created the dummy email address.

This problem started occurring after I updated my iphone 13 to iOS 15.2

Any solutions for the same?

Hi I can confirm it doesn’t work anymore since the latest iOS and macOS updates. I’ve had 2hours call with apple support and now they are looking on it with technicians. Ticket is still open.

to verify it’s not only me I reproduced the failure from my wife’s MacBook. Same issue.

before suggesting to reset everything I would ask The recommenders in the community to try themselves. It definitely does not work on iOS 15.2 or macOS 12.1. to answer back to an own created hide my mail address, atleast If it was created via settings/iCloud/hidemyemail/ Try it.

what still works is to log into iCloud web, there is no problem there.

I just purchased a new iPad and am having this issue as well. Here is what I known/have learned-

  • all the hide my emails were created in iCloud/settings as I use Chrome as my browser (sorry Apple)
  • the reply function works on my old iPad, which is on iOS 15.2.1
  • it does not work on my new iPad, which is iOS 15.3 (latest version)
  • I have powered on/off all the devices but that did not make a difference.
  • it appears to work if I sign on to the iCloud (on web)I am able to reply without getting an error (although I can’t confirm yet that the company I sent email to has received it)

Based in this, I will likely stop using this function, as I don’t want to have to manage mail to my iCloud address e-mail differently than all my other mail. Too bad, I really like being able to hide my e-mail…

I am not sure what you mean by "I have already created the dummy email address." at the same time as saying HME does not work.

You cannot remove the email address from Mail app because it is your icloud address, though you can turn it off in iCloud settings.

Make sure Mail is toggled ON in iCloud settings

So what should happen is you start a new mail, tap on the "from" address, select Hide my email

Compose the mail and send .

The mail will probably end up in the recipient's junk folder unfortunately

I am having the exact same issue mentioned here. It is doing on my recently updated Mac OS 12.1 as well. I have plenty of Hide My email addresses created at this point. There has not been the ability to reply back to someone using the same hidden "hide my email" address you could only receive the emails. In iOS 15.2 it seems they added the feature to be able to reply to messages using your hidden alias email. Only problem is it is not working for me on both iPhone or Mac. There is not even a work around to change the "from" back to my actual email in order to respond. I literally cannot respond to this online support person I am trying to talk to about an un related product. On iPhone, I get a message saying "Hide My Email is currently unavailable." On my Mac I get a message saying "Something Went Wrong". I cannot edit the from or to fields in both iPhone and mac either. This is annoying.

Thanks for clarifying.

It seems HME had worked previously but now fails.

All I can suggest is something in the background has changed or there was a glitch in the iCloud ecosystem (there was one big outage last week)

Have you recently installed security apps? Changed iCloud settings?

Take a look through the article - it is still early days with this feature.

If there is an obvious remedy one of my friends will surely contribute.

Thank for that trick. No the problem was not resolved. Apple Support told me they will follow up in december but never reached back to me. My personal workaround is to send via iCloud web - there it works fine. But on the native apps iOS or MacOS, its corrupted. I also tried with my wifes devices... same problem so I believe its a general problem. What I dont understand is that we dont see more complaints about this issue. Hope its getting fixed because I am fully committed to hide my emails. Using 70+ different logins with that feature and I really would hate to roll back.

Update: I just needed to respond via such hide my mail adress and now it seems it doesn’t work flawlessly via iCloud web anymore. I got „Message couldn’t be sent“ failure. That’s new… and I am afraid Apple does not care about it. I was only able to send the email after I reopened it from „Drafts“. Previously at least iCloud web worked without trouble.

To summarise:

Hide my email is not working via mail app on iOS and MacOS

Hide my email is not working flawlessly on iCloud web

At least I would expect from apple that they recognise the problem and confirm they are working on a solution but everytime i have spoken to support, they act like they never heard of that problem. Obviously I am not the only one. Here a a few people affected and I tested on my wife’s device… same problem. I am not happy with this…
