Cannot access internet recovery mode because "This Mac is linked to a different Apple ID"

I reset my macBook to factory default by following the steps outlined here - https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201065 - and then by erasing the volume Macintosh HD as described here - https://support.apple.com/en-gb/HT208496. Now that the volume is erased, when I try to open the device in Internet Recovery Mode (command-option-R) to be able to re-install macOS, I am prompted in the "Activation Lock" screen to enter an apple ID and password. When I do this I get a notification that the device is linked to another apple ID. Before erasing the volume, the device was linked to my account.

This Mac belongs to me and was previously linked to my Apple ID. How can I gain access to my Mac and ultimately re-install MacOS?

MacBook Pro 15″, macOS 12.0

Hi leighton208,

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities. We understand that Activation Lock is enabled, and you're being asked for an Apple ID and password that you don't recognize. Let's see how we can help. Was your Mac previously owned by someone else? If so, are you able to get in contact with them? The Apple ID and password that were used to turn on Activation Lock will be needed to turn it off. Learn more here: How to remove Activation Lock. If you have proof of ownership, you can request additional support at this site: Request additional support for unlocking your device.

Best regards.
