delete photos from apple watch

My watch needs an update, but can't because there isn't enough memory. So I was going to delete the photos from my watch, but I can't get to them via the phone because it wants to downloand the update to my watch - which keeps failing due to the memory issue. So how do I delete the photos?

Unpair and re-pair the watch and setup as new,this will erase everything and give you a better chance of updating.
