WatchOS 8.3 Update

After installing WatchOS 8.3 my Series 7 45mm will not charge. It cycles through as if someone keeps taking the watch off and on the charger again. I am using the OEM Apple Watch charger, but this also happens on a 3rd party charger that I've used without issue until last night, after I installed this update. Yippee. Wasn't 8.3 supposed to actually fix this issue? Weird because charging was fine on 8.2.

The first (and simplest) thing to try if something isn’t working right is to restart your Apple Watch. If necessary (device not responding), try a forced restart. Both methods can be found here:

This might be the case, but it's highly suspect that my new S7 charged just fine on multiple chargers, and then the moment I update it to OS 8.3 it's a bust on all the 3rd party chargers and only works on the OEM. These are new 3rd party chargers, and an S6 watch charges just fine. So, something happened with the update.

I don't know what to tell you. I am only using the fast charging cable which came with my Series 7 and a 20w USB C charging plug. I bought a second one for my office. I'm not using any 3rd party chargers anymore with my watch. And I moved over to MagSafe charging recently and it's terrific.

Same problem. We have two chargers from I-services a well respected brand that makes products compliant with current standards. Worked perfectly with 8.2. Now when you place the watch on the charger the indications are that the watch is charging but it actually isn’t. Neither can you view the time whilst the watch is on the charger; it keeps requiring the security code to view time.

Have also done restarts etc. This is not a third party manufacturer problem, it is a problem with ios8.3 and needs a proper investigation by Apple… or maybe it’s there way if ensuring you only use their charger?

I have this exact issue and I use the OEM apple watch charger. It maybe charges for a minute and stops and I chatted with an apple specialist online and they walked me through restarting/unpairing/repairing etc and it didn't fix the issue. I escalated this again today with another apple specialist and they were useless on the phone telling me that I had to pay to have my watch sent in to have it fixed. This update is an Apple issue not a customer issue and we should not have to pay to have this fixed.

Hoping others have this same problem so it can be visible to Apple ASAP for them to do something about this.

My third-party travel chargers worked just fine before 8.3. Unfortunately while I was on the road I updated to 8.3. It looked like it was updating, obviously during the update the connection was solid, otherwise the update would've failed. After 8.3, the watch appears to be charging for anything from a few seconds to a few minutes, and then it stops. I borrowed a charger with an integrated OEM puck, and it charges just fine. Since then, I have tried a couple different 3rd party chargers, and none work reliably. Is this a deliberate change by Apple or a bug? I hope the latter, am beginning to suspect the former.

I also experiencing charging problems after installing Apple’s newest watchOS 8.3 update.

at time when I place my watch on the Charger did not charge, I had to restart the Watch to allow it to change again. By the way I’m using the both the apple’s wall charger and the cable. NOT from 3rd party.

Turning off optimized battery charging did the trick for me. I was having to constantly check to see if my battery was going up or not. It would charge for 3 mins then stop ever since the new update dropped. After I turned off optimized charging it works like normal now. Hope this helps!
