IPad charging only when restarted

i have the 12.9 inch ipad pro (2020 version) and for awhile it was not wanting to charge with my charger unless it was restarted several times and only then did it randomly decide to start charging. So i bought a new charger, and now it won't charge at all unless i reset the device. Does anyone have any idea why this happens? it never happened prior to the update but I'm not sure if that would affect it's charging capabilities.

When you replaced your iPad Power Adapter, did you purchase a genuine item from Apple of the same specification as the original, or a third-party replacement?

If your iPad won't charge – Apple Support


Troubleshooting generally requires substitution of the Power Adapter and cable for another known-good item.


If you continue to experience difficulties, you might be best advised to seek assistance directly from from Apple Support - and request a remote diagnostic test of your iPad. You can contact the Support Team using the Get Support link at top-right of this page. Alternatively, you can initiate and manage your support cases using the excellent Apple Support App. If not already installed on your iPad, the App can be downloaded from the App Store:

You might also visit the Genius Bar at your local Apple Store or Apple Authorised Service Provider (AASP) - where the technicians will be able to test and assess your iPad, Power Adapter and cable(s):
