Apple Music replacing downloaded music with different versions

Every now and then Music will replace songs that I have downloaded with other versions (for example, replacing a regular album version with the version that appears on a compilation album). I deliberately choose the version I want when downloading. This really messes up my organization and I have to waste time figuring out what changed and re-downloading the versions I actually want. There is no notification of any kind that these changes have occurred, it's just something that you happen to notice when you come across it.

Also, I have automatic downloads turned on, and it doesn't even bother downloading the alternate versions of songs that it decided I needed.

What gives? Is there a way I can stop this from happening?

I understand you're concerned with music that is being synced to your iPhone updating to a different version, so let's see if we can figure out what's leading to this.

If you're using Apple Music and have Sync Library enabled to sync with your library from a computer, this could be expected to occur. This would be the way Apple Music uploads and transfers the songs as it is locating the matching song within the Apple Music catalog to display on your iPhone, or other devices. If you're not wanting this to occur, you may want to look into using iTunes Match instead to see if that helps.
