my screen has a large area of white with colored vertical lines on it covers about 1/4 of the screen. How can I get rid of this?

My screen suddenly has a large area of white with some vertical colored lines in the white patch. It covers up about a 1/4 of the screen. How can I get rid of this?

MacBook Air 13″, macOS 10.15

Find an Apple Authorized Service Provider

What one is describing appears to require the above actions - Service as it maybe a Hardware issue.
