Verbatim USB not working after Monterey

I have three old Verbatim portable hard disks, all USB 2.0, and one 3.0, which I used without any problem with my MacBook Air M1 and an adapter.

The 3.0 model is my Time Machine disk, and I used successfully it to backup my Mac just a few minutes before I upgrade it from Big Sur to Monterey.

After the upgrade it doesn't appear in Finder and even Disk Utility doesn't see it.

diskutil list from the terminal answers nothing more.

The disk is correctly mounted by my wife's Air 2020 with Big Sur and the same adapter.

And the old 2.0 disks, plus a Maxtor 3.0 work with my Monterey, using the usual adapter. What's wrong with Verbatim?

Now I have ordered a new USB-C to Micro-B 3.1 cable from Amazon, to avoid adapter, I hope it helps.

Buying an original USB-USB-C adapter from Apple should solve definitely?

Product bought from LDLC on 12 May 2021

 Does not work on Mac

Gift sent to friends and family who bought the macbook air M1 (which is incidentally a marvel). The latter only has a USB-C port. In short, after x tests, the connected HDD is not recognized. I regret this non-conforming purchase.

Understand the annoyance between Big Sur and Monterey with same adapter working on Big Sur but not Monterey.

IMHO - Monterey has been tighten up on what Third Party anything works and does not work. This appear to include Adapters, External Drives and even Internal Drives of the computer.

Example of just how High the " Walled Garden of Apple " is becoming >>

There are reports appearing on the ASC Forums regarding failed installation of Monterey on older Qualifying Apple Computers. In most cases this is related to having a NON Apple Original internal drive ?

The EFI Boot ROM included in Monterey is verifying for Original Apple Drive and if not found , may Balk or fail to upgrade to Monterey.

Reports indicate the EFI BOOT ROM is Required to Flash the Computer and is a  requirement for a Successful Monterey Installation.

Conclusions are left to trial and error, at this point.
