Organizing Photos

I’m trying to organize my photos better. Right now, there are 1000s of photos in the Recent album. Some have been assigned other albums and some have not. But I can’t easily tell which have and haven’t. It would be nice if they were removed from Recents once assigned elsewhere but I understand that can’t happen. So, any help with this would be great! Any advice on how to figure out what still needs to go in an album?
