I recently bought a new Apple Watch Series 7, my first apple watch. Why is the charger adapter not included? It only came with the cable and magnetic pedestal, but no power adapter.

In my case, the only device I can use to charge my first Apple Watch is my laptop, so when I’m away from home & don’t have my laptop, I have to buy & use a portable power adapter with the magnetic charging cable USB-C that came with the Apple Watch. Still, going back to the rationale you gave in reply, since most people already own many charging cable with regular USB( Apple sells the Watch charging magnetic cable with regular USB end to connect with adapters) Apple should include a magnetic charging cable with a regular USB end w/ the new Watch. I can only conclude that Apple planned to have a market for the power adapter for the USB-C magnetic charger cable or a complete power adapter and magnetic cable assembly. Smart move by Apple but it defeats the “environmental “ concept.

Apple has not included chargers with their devices (except computers) for some time now. Apparently, some countries penalize Apple for including chargers (due due ecological concerns with the disposing of so many extra adapters). Other people like you want and need them and think Apple is being cheap. Apple can't win. You can use any computer or adapter that has a USB-C port such as:
Arguing why Apple didn't include the charging plug here on a user to user only forum, which Apple doesn't participate in is as useful as whispering into the wind. You are not speaking with Apple. Just other users, none of whom work for or have any input to Apple.

The Apple Watch has not had a charge included for awhile, not just Series 7.
Apple get fined in some countries for including a charger. Apple gets fined in some countries for not including a charger. Apple cannot win.
Apple also gets a lot of pressure from Green Groups about e-waste, because many people have a dozen charging bricks in their homes as it is.
A while ago, Apple decided to stop contributing to e-waste and does not include charging bricks with iPhones and Apple Watches.
The unfortunate thing about that is, the charging cables are all USB-C, and the dozen charging bricks in people's homes are all USB-A.
Anyway, you can get any 3rd party USB-C charging brick you like or one from Apple. If you get a 20watt brick, it will do fast Apple Watch charging. You can also use any USB-C port on a personal computer. You can use your iPhone charging brick (assuming you got a recent iPhone). You can use your Macbook USB-C charging brick.
If you have an older Apple Watch, you can use the charging puck from that Apple Watch on your Series 7. It will not do fast charging, but it will charge the Series 7 the same as it did your older Apple Watch.
Your last sentence is 100% the reason. Anyone claiming they do it to protect the environment is equivalent to someone who enjoys smelling their own farts. They have been providing standard USB adaptors for over a decade, so to make a switch to USB-C cables means that users will predominantly have to purchase new adaptors (THUS ADDING TO THE WASTE) as USB-C ports are not standard across all laptops and devices, and are not frequently included.
Every Mac since 2016 has had USB-C ports. a good 5 years of shipping ONLY USB-C based Macs. More and more PCs are also shipping with USB-C.
The EU is pushing for USB-C to be the standard for portable devices.
Apple did not switch to USB-C in a vacuum.
And yes, there are some users that will not have a USB-C port or charging plug, but not 100% of all Apple Watch users will not have access to a USB-C charging source. And next year it will be even less, and the year after that fewer still, etc...

Many users do not have new Macs. I do not upgrade to a new laptop every two years, nor do I switch out motherboards in my PC that frequently. I do not have anything that accepts a USB-C connection. I am not the only person that is in this exact same situation. USB-C is not the norm, yet.
I would have purchased a charging adaptor when I purchased my watch, had it been recommended to me, it was not. That was Verizon’s fault, not Apple’s, however this is still irrelevant to the point. USB-C is not standard, and even if it were, the claim that this in response to government regulation and/or environmental issues is false as one can logically determine that using a standard USB charging cable would be more efficient on a cost basis for Apple and would be more environmentally friendly as the number of USB adaptors/cables in existence would still be compatible.
I’m all for progress, but let’s stop pretending anything other than greed was the motivation.
I wasn’t aware of that fact actually, so thank you for pointing that out. I will absolutely be using the link you provided as my entire goal was to make my dissatisfaction known to Apple, so thank you.

Agreed. I don’t expect them to change anything either, but I feel like so many corporations take advantage of or push the cost of everything to the consumer while not providing the value they once did. My measly little opinion won’t change that; not sharing my opinion is equally if not more useless, though, so I appreciate the direction given to voice my concerns.
You're welcome. Apple won't respond to you and I wouldn't expect Apple to change their position on this, but they will at least read your comments.
