Watch not charging in power reserve mode

My watch ran out of power and just shows a lightning bolt and the time but won’t charge. Seen this issue a lot online but no solutions.

If I let my Series 5 watch go into Power Reserve Mode, I’ve seen it take many hours on the charger to get it to restart. Tonight it only took four hours. But I’ve had it take all night before. And when it does finally restart, the battery is only at about 10%. Once it restarts, it seems to charge normally.

During that time, while it is sitting on the Apple Dual MagSafe charger, the charging lightening bolt is green (or red, if I remove it from the charger).

This happened to me on both WatchOS 7 & 8.

The article linked by someone else seems to have a link specifically for this situation:

https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204640

“Find out what to do if your Apple Watch Series 5 or Apple Watch SE is in Power Reserve and won’t charge.”

But that appears to be a link to the same article.

It is maddening.

did you find a solution? I explained this to apple support and they took me through all the trouble shooting which I’ve already done but it’s hard to trouble shoot an issue when it’s currently charged and able to charge. So I made a Genius Bar appointment but I’m afraid it’s going to be the same thing over— they won’t understand there’s a problem bc if I don’t let my watch die then it charges regularly.
