Emojis just disappeared from my Apple Mail program (version 12.4). WHen I click on the smiley face symbol, nothing happens. How can I get them back?
I'm on a MacBook Air laptop (MacOS Mojave, version 10.14.6).

Start with this...
Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at startup), does the problem occur in Safe Mode? Could take 10 minutes.
Safe mode attempts to repair Disks & clears lots of caches & loads safe Drivers, & prevents loading of 3rd party extensions, so if Safe Mode works try again in regular boot.
If that doesn't help reinstall the OS.

It didn't work. I went to System Preferences, and clicked on keyboard. I didn't see anything that said "press fn key to". There was a box that said "show keyboard and emoji viewers in menu bar", and I checked that box. I'm on a MacBook Air laptop, OS 10.14.6.
No, in Mojave, that line is "Show keyboard and emoji viewers in menu bar". I checked that box, and it didn't fix it. I think that the problem is inside of the Apple Mail program. Oh well, thanks for trying.

How About doing Edit > Emoji and Symbols?
Am working in Monterey 12.1 - long time since Mojave so it may not be available but refer to picture below and good luck
System Preferences >> Keyboard >> " press fn key to " and invoke " Show Emoji and Symbols "
