An application is using too much memory

Hi there! I just purchased a brand new apple macbook and while it's fast and everything is great, apparently I am somehow using 8GB of application memory when running Lightroom. This has never happened before on any of my other macs or iMac. Has this happened to other people and, if so, were you able to correct the problem? Thank you!

MacBook Pro 13″, macOS 11.6

Hello connies87,

From your post it appears you are concerned about the amount of memory Lightroom is using.

There are a couple of things to take into consideration.

How much total RAM does this Mac have?

Are other programs able to run without any issues?

Does the computer allocate RAM to other programs when they need them?

As long as there are no other issues, then the Mac is working as it should. You can take a look at the Memory Pressure graph to see if the RAM is being used efficiently: Check if your Mac needs more RAM in Activity Monitor - Apple Support

Cheers.
