Run out of application memory when I shouldnt?

My macbook air keeps saying I have run out of application memory when I definitely havent, as the ram should be 8gb and these definitely dont add up to 8gb??

MacBook Air 13″, macOS 13.2

You may see symptoms & can resolve this through 'Activity Monitor'

a utility in the macOS. Review and understand 'Application Memory'

is not directly hardware RAM affixed to logic board of the device..


•To see a list of all current processes on your Mac according

to the resources they’re consuming, follow these steps:


  1. Go to Applications ➙ Utilities
  2. Launch Activity Monitor
  3. Click the Memory tab to see a list of processes, including apps and browser tabs that take up memory
  4. Select a process or app and click the X sign to close it

Application Memory, is more like a virtual RAM that gets stored in the system for immediate use. Activity Monitor can help control memory features in macOS. [Features to control memory.]
