Best cybersecurity

MalwareBytes is the exception to the rule of not installing any anti-virus apps, cleaning apps, or third party security software on a Mac (there is almost always one exception to every rule). Even then, users should only ever use MalwareBytes if they suspect malware or adware has been installed, otherwise there is no need to have MalwareBytes installed or running.

macOS has great built-in security as long as users practice safe computing habits. See this article written by a respected forum contributor for some guidelines:

Keep Security Software Off of your Mac.

It just gets in the way, and is sometimes un-installable. It can get in the way on a Mac, and that is one enable as to how and why.

But...

Scan with Malwarebytes for Mac:

Start with running a scan for malware, using Malwarebytes for Mac and remove what is found. Perhaps something was installed that made this occur. Remove what is found from the quarantine. Malware is short for: Malicious Software, which makes you computer act in a mislead manor.

1. Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for Mac
2. Malwarebytes Uninstaller

Security is built into the Apple computers. Do not install any third party apps that claim to protect you from virus'.

As already said, MalwareBytes is often recommended here to find and remove malware. Your original question was about antivirus apps.

No. MalwareBytes is not an antivirus app and it is often recommended here to search for and remove malware you installed.
