Use MacBook Air and MacBook Pro together for dual monitor purposes

I have an older MacBook Pro that has a broken keyboard. I want to use it solely as a monitor since the quality of the Screen is still excellent.

my new laptop is the MacBook Air with the M1 chip.

can I connect these two laptops and use the MacBook Air as my primary and the MacBook Pro as an extra monitor only?

Thank you Axel. I have BigSur on both laptops (both updated.) They are on the same network, are connected via bluetooth, and I'm logged into the same Apple account on both. When I go to the Screen Mirroring to select the display I would like to mirror, there are no options listed. It only says, "Display Preferences." When I go to Display Preferences to the "Air Play Display" only shows the option "off." It does not give the option to turn on the air play display. I'm obviously missing some vital step and cannot figure out what that is.

Your M1 MacBook Air meets the requirements to use AirPlay and Screen Mirroring because it is using either macOS Big Sur or macOS Monterey.

Your MacBook Pro, on the other hand, must be using either macOS Big Sur or macOS Monterey for Screen Mirroring to work. If your MacBook Pro is using one of the above macOS, then you can Screen Mirror your M1 MacBook Air’s screen on the MacBook Pro and use it as an extended display. Note that both MacBooks must be logged on to the same Apple ID and also on the same Wi-Fi Network for this to work.
