Desktop Stacks
I recently installed Monterey 12.0.1. I chose the option to organize the desktop into stacks. Now I want to undo that decision. How can it be done?

Yes, you can recover from a recent Time Machine backup made before you reorganized the files using the Stacks feature. I suggest using the Migration Assistant to recover your specific user account. Choose the option to keep a copy of the current user folder just in case you need to recover any files that were changed after the backup date.

That threw 1000's of documents, photos, etc. onto the desktop making it totally unusable. I can't see any way to put thing back they way they were 2 days ago. How about using the backup disc somehow?
Simply repeat the process. 😉
It's that easy. 😁
This is what happens when I try the solutions to reverse the Stacks option
Another options is to do a secondary click (right click) on the desktop. The menu that comes up will have a "Use Stacks" option. If it is check, click it once and that will undo the stacks.
Open a Finder window to reorganize your desktop icons.
You might need to move them into temporary folders for the transition; however, it can easily be done.
That look like it might work. Thank you for your patience.
It does still require manual correction, but is much easier to identify and work with. thank you.
You’re welcome! 😉
