Showing previously viewed pages when starting safari

How can I get rid of the row of previously viewed pages that appear at the bottom of the screen when starting safari and pages. This only started when I upgraded to ios15 on my ipad. I know it’s probably a setting but I just can’t find the setting to switch off.

iPad Pro, iPadOS 15

Ok, it turns out that the pages shown before I turned off the “frequently visited” toggle needed to be swiped up individually to clear them. Done this earlier and the problem seems solved now, fingers crossed. Hope this helps others which is why I’ve posted my findings here.
