CarPlay Issues iOS 15.2

After updating to iOS 15.2 I am now experiencing repeated issues with CarPlay performance across multiple apps including Apple Maps, Google Maps, Waze, and Spotify.

When connected to CarPlay each of the above mentioned apps will not work unless the app is also opened on the iPhone. I have repeatedly tried to open a Spotify playlist for example but the CarPlay display remains blank. Only when I open Spotify on my phone does the display on my car come on. The issue occurs when I attempt to use any of the 3 maps apps mentioned above. When I open Google Maps for example, the CarPlay display remains blank until I also open the app on my phone. This leaves me scrambling to open the phone app in time so I don’t miss my turnoff or exit. I can’t stress how dangerous this can be when traveling. I have resigned myself to allow missing my exit or turnoff in the name of safety. This is still dangerous for anyone who would try to scramble to fix the issue while driving. I will add screen shots later as I didn’t think to take a picture of the display.

As part of the iOS 15.2 update, CarPlay was also updated to allow for modifications to Apple Maps. Maybe somewhere in that process the issue was created??

Apple Team please advise if your technicians are aware of the issue and what is being done to rectify the problem.

Thank you

Hello AppleFanBoy208,

Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities. It sounds like you're having an issue with CarPlay since updating your iPhone. We're happy to provide some information to assist.

If you haven't already, be sure your third-party apps are fully updated. If needed, the steps here will assist: How to manually update apps on your Apple device

"Note: For navigation apps that support the CarPlay Dashboard, Dashboard shows the last navigation app opened if no apps are navigating, the one that is actively navigating, or the last opened and actively navigating app if multiple apps are navigating." You can find this information and helpful details in the section "Follow turn-by-turn directions" here: Get turn-by-turn directions with CarPlay

Additionally, you'll want to ensure any firmware in your car is fully updated as well. Use your vehicle’s built-in controls to control CarPlay

We recommend also completing the steps in the article here: If you need help with CarPlay. Specifically the section for forgetting and re-adding your device

If the issue continues, as Apple Support Communities is a user forum you'll want to connect with Apple Support directly to report the issue and to further assist.
