ear damage pick up phone

hello

when i get a phone call and i don't realize its actually a whatsapp video call, i pick up and then place the phone to my ear, but the volume is then on speaker so crazy loud straight into my ear, really hurtful.

any tips on how to configure the phone so that it senses proximity of speaker to my head and then auto reduces the volume? cant believe iphone 12 mini is not smarter!
