I just received a new MacBook for Christmas and it linked to this mini instead of my iPhone which has everything on it.... I would like to link to my iPhone instead. How do I go about it?

That message means that your iPad mini model (most likely a 2nd or 3rd generation) cannot support iOS version beyond 12.5.5., because of hardware (CPU/RAM) incompatibility.
