final cut pro export is so slow

On my MBP 2019 32Gb (and similar spec iMac), with FCP libraries on an external 12Tb RAID5 with plenty of space, FCP X export has got slower and slower... now it's 30 mins to export a 10 minute 720p h264 mp4 at 950Kbps!!

The project has burnt in subtitles using CaptionBurner.. but all exports seem to be slower these days.

Explored Compressor / distributed processing, but that can't be used with projects exported from FCP (!?)

Any tips to speed things up? Does HEVC perform better than h264?

These two are poison to FCP and other video applications.

Uninstall Chrome and the keystone daemons - see https://chromeisbad.com

and then drag FCP to the trash and download a new copy from the App Store.

Hi - would simply having Chrome and Bitdefender closed during FCP work do the trick?

No.

Bitdefender works in the background, so you don't really "close it".

And even though Chrome may not be running, its keystone things are always running - a mind boggling thing, as they are supposed to help with updating Chrome - but they run "undercover" and overload kernel task and window manager. They do not seem to be doing anything, but they are always "on" in a sneaky, stealthy way. To my mind, they ought to be considered malware.
