Have you tried third party browsers such as Firefox? Apple only provides limited period support for its own software such as Safari but many other browsers are updated for longer periods. Yes, your computer is quite old and eventually won't even be able to run updated third party browsers, but in the meantime with El Capitan you should be able to run a fairly updated browser, just not Safari.

The current release of Firefox 95.0.2 requires macOS 10.12 or later, so not applicable to one still on El Capitan. The current Brave Browser (as of this post date) still supports macOS 10.11 and later. This may change in the future.
Have a look at this link and if your issue is the same/similar, then follow the advice given by Eau Rouge in the link.
It does work!

Do you have a question?
That machine is over 13 years old.
Thanks, a family member bought us a MacBook Air 2020. Should be here first week of January
I had Firefox, it prompt an update, now it no longer works on my computer. I tried to revert back but it still says my OS is out of date. I thought of installing Mojave by a method I found, but it says something about “Trim support” and I can’t find if my HD has this. If I could just find a compatible browser...
If you use Apple refurbish, as I have done, you will receive a Mac in like-new condition ready to work out of the box. I have never had any misadventure from Apple refurbished. Your mileage will vary from any refurbish source other than Apple.
Sorry, How do I make my browser work again?
I’ve not had the best luck with refurbished.
