Does anyone have a way to add titles to images in Photos 7 under Monterey. My images already have filenames, but the info box says Add title, but how? Just copying the filename to the title area does not stay there. Add title does not add a title to the image.

One problem I noticed is, that the title stays gray and may vanish again, when I copy and paste the filename into the title field below the thumbnail. But when I copy and paste it into the "Add Title" field in the Info, the title stays ninth Info. It is still grey below the thumbnail. For example - for the two photos in this screenshot the the filename is showing as the title in the Info:
When I add at least one character to the title (not a space character) so it is different from the filename, the new title is no longer dimmed below the thumbnail and can be copied and pasted. I am usually adding some information in addition the the filename to the title and caption, so it is working for me.

FYI, I found an app that does a series of transformations for photos and for Photo Library itself, including copying the all filenames to their image title (and also v.v. if you wanted). It is Photo Exifer 3.5.7.
It worked for me. I could manually set a title and use the View->Metadata->Titles to show the title I set under the image in the Library->All Photos View. For images without titles it would show the filename. This is on an M1 Macbook Pro in Big Sur. (I always forget that) later I can try in Monterey.
Where is your Library stored?
In Photos each image can to have both a filename and a title. The filename is what appears below each thumbnail in Photos. But if the image does not have a title (which may be the same as the filename), it will not sort as that function relies on titles. My problem is that many of my images do not have titles, only filenames. The most recent versions of Photos (6 and 7) do not respond to the scripts which did this on earlier versions. It appears that adding a title manually does not work either.
When I type a title into the "Add Title" field it will stay, also on Monterey. It is still working exactly as described by Keith Barkley.
Scripting Photos has changed after the Catalina upgrade. Most of our older scripts will only work, if we select the photos in the all Photos album or a top level album, but not I smart albums or albums nested in folders.
When I call the script from the scripts menu on Monterey it is still working, with the usual limitations. I have to select the images in a top level album, not in an album nested inside folders.
A further comment to léonie: if you add a title that is the same as the filename manually to the info box, close the info box and then click the displayed filename under the image it will go blank. You will then find that the title you added has vanished from the info box. Back to square one.
Ah but Monterey is different. My Photos Library is in Users>[Name]>Pictures.
I tried all this and saw no issues on my iMac24 M1 with Monterey.
Interesting workaround which seems to be useful and does work. Thanks very much fro your efforts. I would love to know why Apple so screwed up Photos.
For léonie: a further question if I may. Is the script procedure set out in https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-250000346 valid under Monterey/Photos 7?
What do you mean by add a title? If you mean written on the image itself, Photos won't do that.
Sometimes the Title stays and sometimes not when the Info box is closed. I will try the script approach in a top level folder. Thanks.
