Unfortunately, I have not used The Cloud on my multiple outdated devices. I do have my contacts on a relatively new iPhone 12 Pro Max and would like to move over to my new MacBook Pro laptop. Can I do this directly?

If you use the same Apple ID on both your iPhone 12 and this new notebook, they should sync via iCloud if you enable syncing on both devices.
