Samsung T5 not visible on Monterey (new iMac 24") and solutions don't work :( Help please

Hey everyone,

Anyone willing to help me with this?

I followed previous instructions to run a clean up script but it comes up with an error (and the script is not in the library/application folder either, it's in library/application script).

I'm not tech savvy with the coding stuff so I'm completely lost and need my photography files accessible :(

Appreciate any help.

Alex

Will formatting it wipe the data?

Yes

any chance you can talk me through formatting? am I likely to screw it up lol?

Sure

  1. Go to Disk Utility (Finder > Go > Utilities).
  2. In Disk Utility, select “View” > “Show All Devices”.
  3. Select the "Samsung Portable SSD T5 Media" drive.
  4. Click Erase
  5. Name: any name you want
  6. Format: APFS
  7. Scheme: GUID Partition Map
  8. Click Erase

If you're using the Samsung software... don't. It's completely unnecessary; MacOS has everything you need and Jack-19 is spot on with what to do.

In fact, my thoughts are you'll be better off uninstalling the Samsung software. At best, it's confusing. The Windows Samsung Magician app is quite useful, but then it's Windows and Windows needs it.

So this is the process of what happens:

  1. I plug the T5 in... it comes up on the desktop as "T5_setup" (screenshot 1)
  2. When i double click on it, i get a folder with the "SamsungPortableSSD" application.
  3. when i try and install that it gives me a disconnected screen "No Samsung Portable SSD is connected" (screenshot 1) and a request to refresh, which doesn't do anything.
  4. I've followed the instructions allow system extensions

On my previous iMac (OS Sierra), i just connected the T5, double clicked on software, put my security password in and had access to all my data.

So, do I still need to format these T5's?
