Did you click on iCloud Drive in a Finder window Sidebar? The most common cause of documents and Desktop disappearing is activating “Documents and Desktop in iCloud”. Since you were dealing with iCloud you may have accidentally activated this feature. If so, nothing is lost, these folders are stored in iCloud.

Thank you. It had somehow managed to moved to an icloud archive, so had to paste everything back on my desktop and order was restored. I've no idea how setting up a new calendar could have resulted in this though. Thanks anyway.

Maybe there are still there.

What have you done on the Mac since this happened?

Did you just start your first Time Machine backup?

If you did not have a recent backup before you "deleted" stuff you are out of luck?

I set up a new calendar on my mac and have somehow now lost everything on my desktop? Any ideas what may be the cause of this and what I can do to get it back?

I delete all documents in 'Recents'... and apparently APPLE asked me to get help from third party.....

Did you also empty the trash? If not, they will be there.

Do you have a backup?
