Laggy Swiping between Apps/Virtual Desktops?

Hi all,


I recently bought a new MacBook Pro 14" M1 Pro (macOS Monterey Version 12.1).


The best way I can describe what I'm experiencing is:

When I swipe between full screen apps and/or virtual desktops, both keyboard and mouse input seem to lag a few milliseconds behind.


For example...

  1. I have an instance of Safari open in full screen and I have a different browser open in full screen.
  2. I swipe from Safari to the other browser.
  3. I immediately try to open a new tab using the keyboard shortcut.
  4. Instead of a new tab opening in the other browser, a new tab opens in Safari.


Another example...

  • I can't immediately type on the app I have swiped to. I have to wait a few milliseconds.


Can anyone please assist?

I'm not sure what the issue is or if there even is an issue.

If I use command tab to switch between the apps instead of the swiping gesture on the trackpad, I don't experience the same thing.

To add, I also don't experience this on my MacBook Pro 16" 2019 baseline model.

Thanks for participating in Apple Support Communities. We understand that when swiping between apps you're noticing a delay, but when using the keyboard shortcut you don't experience any delays. To help narrow this down, test the issue in safe mode and another user account. Safe mode tells us if a third-party process/app is possibly causing this. More information about safe mode and how to start there can be found here: How to use safe mode on your Mac


Restart your Mac normally to exit safe mode, then create another user account to see if this happens there. This tells us if the issue is system-wide or only within your user account: Set up users, guests, and groups on Mac


Keep us posted.
