How can I remove akamaized.net from my Mac's Control Center?

The URL akamaized.net appears at the bottom of the Control Center on my MacBook Air (OS 11.6.1). What is this and why is it there? Is it safe? If not, how can I remove it?

Background & update:

  • I was screen mirroring a video running in Safari on my MacBook Air to my Apple TV. It was when I stopped mirroring that I first noticed the akamaized.net panel in my Control Center. I didn't notice whether it was there during or before mirroring.
  • When I quit Safari, the akamaized.net item disappeared from the Control Center.
  • When I reopened Safari the akamaized.net item did not reappear.

Why is Akamai on my computer?

The Akamai NetSession Interface is a secure application that may be installed by a third-party installer on your computer to improve the speed, reliability, and efficiency of applications and media download. Some video streaming applications also make use of the tool to improve streaming quality

If you did not Install this application purposefully or downloaded from a Untrusted Site some software - it may have been Bundled in the downloaded Software

There are no known Windows-like Viruses in the wild that self replicate and affect macOS, because of the underling UNIX  Foundation and Permission Limitation.

The The Built in Security  is all that is required to protect the computer.

Should “ Certain & Specific Software “ referenced from above be installed - it will negatively impact macOS. It is suggested, to download directly from a respected ASC Contributor, the application Malwarebytes for Mac

It is free or paid for added features.

Run the Application and it should remove the malware / adware.

Once done, restart computer and test.
