Managing iTunes and iPhone Music Library Differences

There is an issue with content differences from the PC/Mac and mobile device (iPhone). Many times, people load and/or copy music directly to their iPhone. Over time, that creates a dilemma where iTunes basically wants to remove any content on the mobile device that isn't present on the PC/Mac. That's not going to work.

Is there a better way to manage this? I have a lot of content, playlist, etc. on my iPhone that are not sync'd to my system -- over a long period of time. I do not want that content destroyed.

Would it make sense for Apple to provide a middle-ground on this, with a "merge" (noting any duplicates)? Is there a better way to resolve this problem?

I think the best thing for you would be to buy a program like iMazing that lets you transfer the music on your phone to your computer. You can then import the content into iTunes and sync normally. You will lose your playlists, though. Be prepared for that. You'll have to re-make your playlists after the iTunes sync.

Any iTunes Store purchases will automatically be transferred from the phone to iTunes when you plug your phone in. The above only applies to downloaded/ripped music.
