There is no red button with a x in it.

You could see one inside a web page where authors use windows symbols.

You do see a red dot button. It is the close button. Closing a window and closing an app are two different things in macOs. Decide what you want to do. Use the appropriate action.

To quit an application, I use command + q.

Windows lets you run the same app multiple times. macOS doesn't. if an app wants, it can open multiple windows. For example, start up word by double clicking on a word document. macOS starts up word. Word opens the document in a window. To edit a second document, you can:

-- double click on another document. Word will open the second document in another window.

-- command + n will open a blank document window.

The advantage of this is if you double click on the word app, you bring up the running word app.

Hi anurag002,

We understand you're looking to quit an application instead of just closing it. We're happy to offer some guidance.

To quit an application, select the app name up in the top left of the menu bar, then select Quit (app name). You can also quickly quit an app by pressing Command-Q on the keyboard. This will quit whichever application is currently the active one.

Quit apps on Mac

Hope this helps. Cheers!

Hi anurag002,

We'd like to get a better understanding of the issue you're having. Can you provide us with some more details about the issue you're seeing when you press the close (red) button in applications?

Is there just no response at all when you click that? Are you getting some sort of error message? Is the close button not working in any applications, or just a specific one? Is the application frozen/unresponsive when you're trying to close it with the red button?

Thanks!

Ask your questions here. We want you to be happy with your mac.

Windows is so clunky once you get the mac way.

I recommend one or both of these apps.

I especially like to have a history of my copy commands. command + v

Here is Keyboard Maestro

Keyboard Maestro includes a history of you copy command buffers. Here is a list of my last copy commands. For privacy, I'm only showing my last three copies. This is only a small part of the app. The larger app lets you automate your repetitive keystrokes. I continue to us this because I've had it for years and don't want to reprogram my shortcuts. I have F8 set to open word when not open and switch to word when Word is open.

I use CopyClip because I've been "always" using it.
