Simply pressing X will never disable Face ID.
Yes it does.. The message presented when you do what the OP describes is 'Your passcode is required to enable Face ID'. The opposite of enable is disable right? So Face ID is effectively disabled until the passcode is entered.
When you press X then you will need the passcode next time to open the iPhone because
Your device will require your passcode when you do the following:
Turn on or restart your device or • Press X after Slide to Power Off Screen has reached.
Press the Home button or swipe up to unlock your device (you can change this• )
• Update your software
• Erase your device
• View or change passcode settings
• Install iOS or iPadOS Configuration profiles
The OP knows this and intentionally goes to the power off screen before going to bed. Therefore the OP expects to be prompted for the passcode in the morning.. And because they were not prompted, they suspect that someone else accessed the phone while they were sleeping.
So one of the following must be true:
- Op forgot to 'disable' Face ID prior to going to sleep.
- Op woke up at some point and entered the passcode, but doesn't remember doing it.
- Someone else entered the passcode.
you made 5 response posts some of them contradicting prior posts.. and edited them a dozen times.. OP is probably even more confused now.
But I agree with your final statement, If someone knows the passcode, then OP should change their passcode.
