You are better off resetting the iPad back to factory settings and set it up again as new. You can then input your child’s Apple ID during the setup of the iPad (again).

To Restore the iPad back to factory settings, open the Settings app ➔ General ➔ Transfer or Reset iPad ➔ Reset ➔ Erase All Content & Settings: Follow the on-screen instructions and this should return the iPad to factory settings and back to the “Hello” screen.
