My Apple Watch won’t connect to my phone

Every time I go to pair my watch it says it needs an update and so I go to update it and it does this. I press try again or start over multiple times I even tried turning both products off and on and I get nothing:/ my phone is connected to Wi-Fi and the watch is charged so I don’t really know what’s going on
