The 'Dock' app is the problem cause. There are 3 ways to make it work again temporarily. Just try one of below 3 ways;

  • Open 'Terminal' and type in "killall Dock" and press enter. The 'Dock' app will be running correctly again right away.

  • Open 'Activity Monitor' and stop the 'Dock' app. The 'Dock' app will be running correctly again right away.

  • Restart your Mac.

Hope Apple can fix this problem ASAP.

Hi to all and thanks to all for your help comments,

After a lot of months and Monterey upgrades, the same problem here with MacBook Pro 16 (intel i9) and two displays plug in TB3 with DisplayPort in OWC device...

I think before read this post, that it's the problem, becouse I work on my MBP with the MBP closed.

I think that is a crossed problems about Mission Control, Dock and perhaps another actor: Keyboard (I work with the original Keyboard of my older Mac Pro, plugin in hub usb across OWC ThunderBolt 3 )

I solved my issue with this terminal commands, Kill Dock, and another that I don't read on this tread, Enable Mission Control

At the moment, after this Commands, I works fine without any issues. I put this here.

If killing the Dock doesn't work, you can add an extra command to enable Mission Control first. The command will activate Mission Control by modifying the preference file of Dock (com.apple.dock.plist) located in ~/Library/Preferences.

How to fix Mac Mission Control not working:

1 Open Terminal.

2 Input the command below and press Enter to enable Mission Control.

defaults write com.apple.dock mcx-expose-disabled -bool FALSE

3 Execute the following command to restart Dock.

killall Dock

Hopefully, you no longer face macOS Mission Control not working after applying this fix.

I solved my problems with this couple commands

Best wishes!

(I found this help commands in a web page, iBoysoft <<<Thanks!)

The issue remains with macOS 12.3.1 (21E258) Monterey on Intel x86 iMac 27-inch Retina 5K display 4.2 GHz (iMac18,3; mid 2017). Magic Keyboard with Numeric Keypad & Magic Mouse 2.

The issue arises only after booting. Then:

Dock NOT showing - LIkewise opened applications (Command Tab) or show-hide Dock (Option Command D) or Mission Control-Exposé (F3) or LaunchPad+Dock (F4).

Fixed rebooting or forcing Quit Dock (lonly process) in Activity Monitor then showing Dock and also two Dock Extra processes. Once fixed, it does not arise again until after the next boot (arises about 50% of the times).

Monterey 12.3.1

Macbook 16 M1 Max

I have identified, but not corrected the real Mission Control problem.

1. You restart your computer.

2. Only launch native Apple applications (mail, Safari, Map, App store, etc.)

Everything is going well, Mission Control works perfectly.

Mission Control no longer works as soon as you launch a third-party application, regardless of the editor, Photoshop, Chrome, etc...

No answer from Apple...

I also have the same problem in previous versions of Monterey and current 12.5. I have been using a 16-inch MacBook Pro M1 Pro for about a month and half only, but have met this problem many times - at least 2 or 3 times per day!

Multi-Finger gesture functions on Trackpad, Mission Control/F3, Hot Corners, etc stopped working randomly and frequently.

When I stopped 'Dock' app using the Activity Monitor (Quit or Force Quit), these functions were working again, but stopped working again and again randomly. Very annoying!

Is this problem related to hardware or software/firmware?

If it is hardware problem, please do recall.

If it is software/firmware problem, please debug/fix this problem as soon as possible.

It is great to see such consistent advice.

If Monterey acting up on your older iMac or newer M1 - e.g.,

  • BlueTooth Issues,
  • Mission Control Issues,
  • Keychain Issues,
  • Other
  • All of the Above

Just stop whatever it is you are trying to do and reboot. If that doesn't work, just keep rebooting, resetting, etc.

Don't count on Apple to acknowledge or repair the bugginess. It's just not that company anymore and hasn't been for quite some time now.

Hi HaroldtheWriter,

It appears that Mission Control on your MacBook Pro isn't working or responding. This may seem like a simple step, but have you tried restarting your MacBook Pro yet? Log out, sleep, wake, restart, or shut down your Mac It can sometimes help resolve unexpected issues.

Another step is to start up in safe mode and test to see if the issue happens there too. Safe mode only allows certain software to load, which can help isolate this further. You can read more about that here: How to use safe mode on your Mac

Best wishes to you.
