The 'Dock' app is the problem cause. There are 3 ways to make it work again temporarily. Just try one of below 3 ways;

  • Open 'Terminal' and type in "killall Dock" and press enter. The 'Dock' app will be running correctly again right away.

  • Open 'Activity Monitor' and stop the 'Dock' app. The 'Dock' app will be running correctly again right away.

  • Restart your Mac.

Hope Apple can fix this problem ASAP.

Just updated to Monterey 12.5 yesterday. This issue happened to me today, and a couple of times last week. So Apple definitely hasn't fixed the issue. I do believe they are aware of it but it doesn't seem like they have done anything to fix it. It seems the most they will do is patch minor bugs and major security issues after a new OS version is pushed out. All we can hope for is that the issue is fixed when the next major OS version is released.

I also have the same problem in previous versions of Monterey and current 12.5. I have been using a 16-inch MacBook Pro M1 Pro for about a month and half only, but have met this problem many times - at least 2 or 3 times per day!

Multi-Finger gesture functions on Trackpad, Mission Control/F3, Hot Corners, etc stopped working randomly and frequently.

When I stopped 'Dock' app using the Activity Monitor (Quit or Force Quit), these functions were working again, but stopped working again and again randomly. Very annoying!

Is this problem related to hardware or software/firmware?

If it is hardware problem, please do recall.

If it is software/firmware problem, please debug/fix this problem as soon as possible.

Hi to all and thanks to all for your help comments,

After a lot of months and Monterey upgrades, the same problem here with MacBook Pro 16 (intel i9) and two displays plug in TB3 with DisplayPort in OWC device...

I think before read this post, that it's the problem, becouse I work on my MBP with the MBP closed.

I think that is a crossed problems about Mission Control, Dock and perhaps another actor: Keyboard (I work with the original Keyboard of my older Mac Pro, plugin in hub usb across OWC ThunderBolt 3 )

I solved my issue with this terminal commands, Kill Dock, and another that I don't read on this tread, Enable Mission Control

At the moment, after this Commands, I works fine without any issues. I put this here.

If killing the Dock doesn't work, you can add an extra command to enable Mission Control first. The command will activate Mission Control by modifying the preference file of Dock (com.apple.dock.plist) located in ~/Library/Preferences.

How to fix Mac Mission Control not working:

1 Open Terminal.

2 Input the command below and press Enter to enable Mission Control.

defaults write com.apple.dock mcx-expose-disabled -bool FALSE

3 Execute the following command to restart Dock.

killall Dock

Hopefully, you no longer face macOS Mission Control not working after applying this fix.

I solved my problems with this couple commands

Best wishes!
