How to save window size in Apple News?

I upgraded from Mojave on a Mac Pro to Monterey 12.1 on a Mac mini M1. Upon quitting and opening Apple News the main window size is not saved, which is annoying. Does anybody know what files to delete to reset Apple News so the window size is remembered?

This setting does mean window size is retained on reopening after CMD+Q quitting Apple News, but not after CMD+W to close the window - when window opens again, the dimensions are reset (to a size much too small for a 27" iMac). Also, the sidebar is restored after CMD+Q or CMD+W but I don't want it to be there. Is there any other way to ensure the Apple News window dimensions and sidebar are retained after CMD+W and CMD+Q?
