Monterey upgrade broke my external 17" VGA connection. Trigger driver update for VGA Adapter?

After upgrading my 16" 2019 MBP from Big Sur to Monterey, my external 17" VGA monitor no longer connects. (It had previously worked just fine.) The Apple "USB Type-C VGA Adapter" adapter shows version 1.58 in the System Report and I cannot get the system to prompt for a driver update.

I'm trying to follow https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT205858 - "About the USB-C Multiport Adapter Update 1.0" which notes it is for the VGA Adapter as well.

I've charted and tried every combination of restarting my laptop, with/without the adapter plugged in, with/w/o the power plugged in to the laptop or the adapter, the VGA cable plugged in to the adapter before or after connecting the adapter, having the monitor off, on, or on standby. All of these done with no other peripherals attached at all.

No configuration has prompted an update of the driver. The System Report continues to show "Version 1.58".
