How can a transfer photos from my android phone to my mac? I used to be able to just plug it in and photos would know to grab the latest ones since i last plugged it in...but it's no longer doing that :/

I've no idea why it might have changed, but a workaround until you find out how to fix it (if that is possible) is to use the image capture tool to download the photos to a folder.
You can then import them to photos from the folder with file>import.
